Georgia Tech HHS Center designated as official VA research partner to improve healthcare delivery for veterans.

March 29, 2016

Georgia Tech’s Center for Health & Humanitarian Systems (CHHS) was recently named an official partner of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in “Healthcare Systems Analysis and Operations Systems Engineering Support” for the Veterans Engineering Resource Centers (VERC) of New England VERC (http://www.newengland.va.gov/verc/). This designation under a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) allows CHHS to bid for new research proposals at the VA for funding of up to $3 million to improve healthcare delivery for veterans.

The VERCs facilitate innovative solutions to healthcare delivery challenges identified by national, network, and facility leadership as well as to propose important opportunities for change and improvement. CHHS faculty and students bring expertise in operational and systems engineering (OSE) practices and expertise in operations management to design innovative solutions to aid healthcare professionals and staff at all stages of the delivery process to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

CHHS focuses on improving of healthcare delivery through the application of advanced science and technology to transform systems and operations. CHHS was founded in the School of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISyE) at Georgia Tech, which boasts the #1 graduate program in this field for the last 26 years according to U.S. News & World Report. CHHS has successfully partnered with organizations such as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute, the GA Department of Public Health, and the Task Force for Global Health (TFGH) to apply industrial and systems engineering methods to healthcare delivery to improve patience satisfaction and reduce costs for hospitals and caregivers.

CHHS is led by co-directors and co-founders Drs. Pinar Keskinocak and Julie Swann, with Research Director Paul Griffin. For more on the CHHS, please visit hhscenter.gatech.edu.
